We find it hard to speak the truth when we tend to benefit if a lie was rather told. In our eyes lieing is not much of a sin when compared to other sins like stealing, killing and the likes.
Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight. (Proverbs 12:22). This is seen how the lie told by Ananias and Sapphira ended them up.
Ananias and his wife Sapphira had sold their property with the aim of giving all the money to the church. With the wife's full knowledge he however brought only part of the money to the apostle.
Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. (Acts 5:1-2)
The deception of Ananias and his wife Sapphira resulted in their death. Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.” (Acts 5:9)
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I commit my life in your hands. In all my endeavours, help me to be truthful. No matter the situation let me always tell the truth and nothing but the truth.
And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.
