Obedience to God's Word

Bible Text: Luke 11:27-28

The Mnemonic for the Bible "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth" reveals the purpose of the Bible. The text in 2 Timothy 3:16 outlines the authenticity and purpose of scripture. The Bible is our guide for a successful and fulfilled life here on earth and a preparation to eternal life in Heaven.

Modernisation has brought about the dilution and replacement of the word of God for more convenient and modern instructions on how to live our lives here on earth. The devil is going up and down the earth seeking whom to devour (1 Peter 5:8). He is the father of all lies and has targeted to remove the word of God from the lives of God's children.

How can we obey the word if we do not know what the word says? We are instructed to meditate on the word of God day and night and be careful to obey it as stated in Joshua 1:8 "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful".

There are consequences of not obeying the word of God. We are likened to a foolish builder who built on sand and faced disaster when the rains came. "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." (Matthew 7:26-27)

The good news however is that we are assured of a successful and prosperous life when we obey God's word. It is therefore necessary to get rid of anything that will prevent us from obeying the word of God (Matthew 13:1-9) and setting aside time for Bible Study. It is when all this is done that the words of Jesus will apply to us; "Blessed are those that hear the word of God and keep it".

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I commit my life in your hands. Help me to study your word and always have it on my lips that I may live a Christ-like life and have a prosperous and successful life.
And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.

Amen!
