It is quite difficult to define what love is. Society has tried on several occasions to define love but almost always fails. This is because the definition of love only lies with the creator of love, God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8)
A major characteristic of love according to 1 Corinthians 13 is that Love never fails. However in our present times were the rates of divorce is ridiculously high we have heard on several occasions that love can fail. It is close to impossible to pass an exam without studying cover to cover the study materials. How then can we love without knowing what love is.
There are several acts of love depicted in the Bible with the ultimate being that of God himself giving his life so that we may not die but have everlasting life. He died a painful and shameful death not because he had done anything wrong but because he loves us. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
To love we have to know God. We can then be able to imitate him. We are to imitate his character of love. When we love as God loves, we are able to show the true nature of love. To be able to keep his commandments we have to love God. This love can then be replicated in loving our neighbours.
When we love the way God loves that love cannot be explained. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Can we explain this love? Did we do anything to deserve this love?
We have to show the true kind of love. In 1 Corinthians 13 we have the true nature of Love:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
Love is the foundation of everything. If we do not love God we cannot obey him, If we do not love our neighbour we cannot seek their best interest. When we love the Christ-like way it draws us closer to God and not away from him. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I commit my life in your hands. As you love me O Lord help me to show this love that I may be drawn closer to you.
And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.
And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.
Amen!
