Look to Jesus and Live!

Bible Text: Hebrews 12:2

The psalmist states that our life is like an evening shadow and we wither away like grass. (Psalm 102:11) This is a reality and we mostly find ourselves spending this life just surviving and not living because our gaze is not set on Jesus.

The bronze snake was an Old Testament representation of the work Christ was to perform in our lives through his death on the cross. The Israelites who were bitten by the venomous snakes as a result of their disobedience and grumbling, were to look up at the bronze snake on the pole and even though they were bitten by the snakes, would live but not die. (Numbers 21:6-9)

In the same manner, we are to look to Jesus. Even in this short life we have here on earth, Christ has a plan for us to live an abundant life, that plan solely relies on us looking to Jesus, because He is the way, the truth and the life.

Looking to Jesus means trusting him. This is total dependence on Jesus. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6) We have to live according to God's principles for our lives, this builds our trust in Him, helping us to look to Him in all we do.

Looking to Jesus means setting Jesus as our goal in this lifeBrothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,  I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14).

When Jesus is our goal we will live loving him everyday, living lives that please him. In the similar manner Jesus endured the cross for us knowing that at the finishing line there is Joy. He is now sitted at the right hand side of God, interceding for us. As we fix our gaze on Jesus, looking to Him in all aspects of our lives, living for him, loving him, we will receive our reward which is an eternity with our Lord Jesus in Heaven.

When we look to Jesus, even though we die a physical death here on earth we will be resurrected to life in Heaven. As the children of Israel looked to the bronze snake that was lifted up and they did not die, we who look up to Jesus, shall not die but have an everlasting life.

Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him. (John 3:14-15)

I’ve a message from the Lord, hallelujah!

This message unto you I’ll give,
’Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”

  • Refrain:
“Look and live,” my brother, live,
    Look to Jesus now, and live;
’Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I commit my life in your hands. Help me to look to you everyday of my life, that I may live and not die.

And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.

Amen!
