Amazing Love: The King died for me

Bible Text: Romans 5:8

No one wants to die. Death is however inevitable this has led to measures being adopted to prevent death. For air travel there are parachutes in the case of a crash. Seat belts and air bags for cars. Helmets for motor bikes. Life boats for ships. We try in our capacities to stay alive. No one willingly choses to die unless on rare and special cases.

Our Saviour however chose to die. A King, the Son of God laid down his life so that we may live and not die. He died a shameful death so that our debt is cleared once and for all.

Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! (Philippians 2:6-8)

During his arrest Jesus had made it known that he could decide to call on God for protection. But in order to save us he had to go to the cross. He had to die in this manner. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” (Matthew 26:53-54)

We were on his mind through out. He thought of our freedom and had to do all things in his power to gain that freedom for us. To set us free from the power of sin. This was all borne out of his undying love for us. This love was demonstrated by those nail pierced hands and feet, crown of thorns on his head.  Amidst the pain, the ridicule, the thirst, His love for us kept him on that cross.

This same Saviour, Jesus, is knocking at the door of your heart today. Invite him in and He alone can save you from sin and give you life in abundance. I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

  1. And can it be that I should gain
an interest in the Saviour's blood?
Died he for me, who caused his pain?
For me, who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left his Father's throne above —
so free, so infinite his grace —
emptied himself of all but love,
and bled for Adam's helpless race.
'Tis mercy all, immense and free;
for, O my God, it found out me!

(Amazing Love)

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I commit my life in your hands. Your love for me I cannot explain. Come into my life and make it your home. Let your light shine through me.
And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.

Amen!
