Let the Word of God dwell in you

Bible Text: Matthew 13:1-23

When we visit a new place and asked to feel at home it is with the aim of making us feel comfortable. To feel at home means to feel a sense of belonging although in fact we do not and will eventually return to our own home. With the Word of God it defers in the sense that we must make the word of God feel at home, but forever. The Word of God is to dwell in us forever.

Jesus gave illustrations of this in his parable of the sower. The sower sowed on various kinds of soils. Some seeds fell by the way side, The birds ate it up. Others fell on rocky grounds and were scorched by the sun because they had no roots. Others fell on thorns which grew up and chocked the plants. However some fell on good soil and grew to produce crops  (Matthew 13:1-8)

When we hear the Word of God and do not understand it, like the seeds who fell on the path, the devil snatches it away from our hearts. When we face persecution because of the Word of God and are not able to stand our ground, like the seeds that fell on the rocky grounds these circumstances scorch the Word away because the Word does not have any roots in us.When we hear the word but allow the worries of life and deceitful of wealth to choke up the Word we are like the seeds that were chocked up by the thorns.

Jesus wants us to be like the seeds that fell on good soil. We must receive the word of God, Understand it and allow it to indwell in us and produce crops.

We can go from Genesis to Revelation a hundred times but when we do not understand the Word and in so doing cannot be careful to obey it , the Word just stays overnight but does not make our hearts a homeWe are to practice the Word of God inasmuch as we hear it. Only then can we be blessed   (James 1:25)

When the Word of God indwells in us, our way of life will reflect Christ and we will bear much fruits.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.                  (Galatians 5:22-23)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I commit my life in your hands. Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Help me to hear and keep the word of God that I may not sin against you.

And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.

Amen!
