We are the Temple of God

Bible Text: 2 Corinthians 6:16

Covering our noses and showing other signs of disgust is a common reaction to filth. We are disgusted at the sight or smell of filth, and worse of all when this filth comes into contact with us.

We however expect a Holy God to dwell in his temple, our bodies, even after we have filled it with dirt. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own (1 Corinthians 6:19)

In as much as we keep a good hygiene physically, we should also put in more effort in keeping a spiritual hygiene.
Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. (2 Corinthians 7:1)

We have to consciously be separated from things and people that will defile us. This does not mean we should be hostile to anyone, but it means there should be a clear distinction between their lifestyle and ours. Their way of life should not be our way of life.

Sin is anything that defiles God's temple. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

We are to make sure that God's temple, our bodies, are well kept so that God can dwell with us. When we make our bodies filthy with sin, we separate ourselves from God which leads to our destruction.
If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person; for God's temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. (1 Corinthians 3:17)

The following should be the characteristics of a temple that God can dwell in. When we exhibit these traits and live our lives to please God, we purify ourselves and make our bodies conducive for God to dwell in . But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I commit my life in your hands. Come and dwell in me, Make me your home. Take away all things that will make me defile my body, your Temple.

And unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.

Amen!
